Litchfield N.P. on Google Maps.
Just two hours drive from Darwin along the Stuart Highway to Batchelor and then, following the narrow road that leads to the park, you enter in the Litchfield National Park, an interesting and enjoyable tourist attraction before to beginning the long journey across Australia. Several rivers feed the waterfalls of Wangi and Florence, two of the most popular waterfalls in the park thanks to the small lakes they generate. Natural pools where is possible to swim in safety without the danger of crocodiles that live in the waters not controlled in the park. Another attraction are the incredible giants termite mounds, especially those "magnetics" so called because all aligned in the same north-south direction to repair the structure from the hot sun. Entering the park along a paved road or along the roads of earth and stones often crossed by creeks, you reach the Lost City, a complex of rocks immersed in the forest that look like the ruins of an ancient city. An easy trip if you stay on paved roads, more difficult when riding on the dirt tracks that require expert guidance to avoid being trapped by water or get lost following old roads that end up in nothing.
