Atiu on Google Maps.
The island of Atiu (Cook Islands), thanks to a special geological situation, is one of the few places on earth where you can see the Makatea or fossilized coral. The fossilized coral is formed by the gradual but steady increase level of the island respect the level of the Pacific Ocean. Today, you can see the fossilized coral up to 30 meters tall. Walking in the interior of the island between the dense tropical forest is possible to see caves and fossilized shells. A journey to see a particularity geological interesting and very strange.
