Geneva Lake (Switzerland)

Switzerland - Curiosity - Back to index

By: Carlo Piccinelli

Losanne on Google Maps.
Maurice Decoppet, President of ABVL (Friends of the Steam Boat Lausanne), tells wtreportage.net, the history of steamboats on Léman Lake, a fleet of paddle steamers which today is the largest in the world still working. In the shipyards of Lausanne, Maurice Decoppet tells what are the problems of the restoration of a steamboat and the difficult art of steam navigation. A journey that takes us back in time, to the times of the Belle Epoque, when travel was slow, quiet and relaxing between shiny brass, precious woods, orchestras and travelers excited to see the big boats leave the dock and cross the calm waters of the Léman lake from the Swiss side to the French side and even today it is possible, thanks to the fleet of steamers of Léman lake, participate in cruises that allow a charming "jump in the past".
