Cornello, Brembana Valley (Italy)

Italy - Curiosity - Back to index

By: Carlo Piccinelli

Cornello on Google Maps.
The medieval village of Cornello dei Tasso, located on the slopes of the hills overlooking the Brembo stream in Brembana valley (Bergamo), is the place of origin of Tasso family. The best figure known of the Tasso family is certainly Torquato Tasso, known throughout the world to have wrote various literary works such as “Jerusalem liberated”, but the entire Tasso family deserves to be remembered not only to have founded the postal service in the 15th century but to have managed the Habsburg court for centuries, spreading the postal communication service throughout Europe. The village of Cornello can only be reached on foot and walking through the alleys and you will discover the small but interesting Tasso museum. In just over an hour you can visit the various rooms where Torquato Tasso memorabilia and the history of postal communications are displayed with various documents that testify to the foresight of a family who invented a way to send and receive letters and documents in complete safety and in all over the world.
