The islands on Google Maps.
Saint Pietro and Saint Antioco are two small islands located near the south west coast of Sardinia. Clear sea, deserted sandy beaches and quiet and sheltered bays that enter into the coast, are the characteristics of this small archipelago known as Sulcis Archipelago. Saint Pietro has only one inhabited center, the town of Carloforte, a small town that lives on tuna fishing thanks to the ancient seafaring tradition of the tonnara, one of the few fishing traditions still practiced in Mediterranean Sea. The island of Saint Pietro can be reached from the nearby island of Saint Antioco with a connection with a small ferries. The main island of Saint Antioco is more inhabited. The capital is the city of Saint Antioco connected with Sardinia thanks to a long bridge that crosses the narrow arm of the sea. Another important town is Calasetta in the north, the point of departure of ferries for the island of Saint Pietro. This small archipelago is a very popular tourist destination during the summer season. Large uncrowded beaches, cliffs where you can make long treks around the island, excellent restaurants where you can enjoy fresh fish and a good hotel accommodation make the Sulcis archipelago a destination known internationally. The nearby coalfield of the Sulcis-Iglesiente region and the tourist routes to discover the mining history of this part of Sardinia make it an excellent destination for both sporting and cultural tourism.
