Doubs river and Rhone-Rhin Canal on Google Maps.
An houseboat journey through the Eastern France starting from Saint Jean de Losne on the Saone river, until the city of Besancon through the countryside and the hills of the Jura region. The nautical base of departure, is in the small village of Saint Jean de Losne where you can rent house boats for many destinations following rivers and canals through the central eastern France. The itinerary of the article, follows part of the river Doubs and the Rhone/Rhin Canal, the canal that connects ideally the river Rhone with the river Rhin. A waterway through the France, linking Germany with the Mediterranean sea. The journey by houseboat, ends in the city of Besancon where stands, on a hill overlooking the river, the ancient fortress built by the architect Vauban in the 17th century.
